New Sites – New Fields was a LSC led project looking at different aspects of the local landscape.
TRADE Residency
TRADE Residencies – A Leitrim County Council initiative to provide the opportunity for local artists to work with an internationally renowned artist. For 2011, the International artist was the American photographer David Michalek, who worked with 3 Leitrim and 1 Roscommon based artists. After exploring several national issues, we settled on the extraction of gas from the shale beds underneath the county. The development of this would have severe negative impacts on the region and the health of the residents. A portrait project that put faces on those who objected to this, and individual responses by each artist, formed the basis for an exhibition in Carrick on Shannon, and the development of a website highlighting and promoting these objections.
