About

Water trough at Lurganboy – built by David Spence 1997

How it all started

Dappled Shadows was conceived as an on-line shop for the sale of the works of David Spence and selected artists producing complementary works. The development of 3D printing and laser cutting creates opportunities for small scale products and “to-order” production. It was the opportunities opened up by the FabLabs in Ireland that formed the impetus to evolve into this new identity.

Our story

Dappled shadows was registered with the CRO on the 5th September 2017 and continues as a sole trader entity. However, as a sole trader time is limited, and until the covid lock-downs, DS worked part-time as Historian and Tour Guide for the Manorhamilton castle. The shut-downs saw DS concentrate on community projects and supporting vulnerable people in the community. Going forward, the long delayed launch of the Dappled Shadows shop is being brought to the foreground.

Our approach

Dappled Shadows values the past and how different cultures have expressed themselves. It takes inspiration from the native genius and weaves them into something new while retaining both an understanding and a curiosity of the original. Standing with a foot in the digital age while firmly planted in traditional craft skills, their interplay brings innovation and creativity.
